Stories
I've been working in startups focused on online communities for more than a decade. I've learned that there is a tremendous amount of hesitancy on behalf of the company to give up strictly dictating the direction of the community, but can only succeed once it does so. Companies that can serve as ambassadors and facilitators rather than hall guards will attract the most compelling communities. Like a government, the right rules and paths to change those rules must be created, and openly shared.
Appswell launched in October '09. We were our own client of the platform, with ideas about iPhone apps. We're now enabling brands and companies to run their own campaigns to reach out to brilliant people who care about their products and brandsb'
We've been crowdsourcing iPhone apps in a competition based system, passionate app users with no resources to have their apps built submit them through our app, vote, comment, and share, with winning ideas being built.
We just launched a campaign for GE, a $200 Million open innovation contest around finding brilliant, fundable ideas for clean energy. Appswell is powering the mobile component of this.
